First-of-its-kind surgery utilizes miniature robotic system
Golden Valley Memorial Healthcare
Clinton, Mo.

A surgeon at Golden Valley Memorial Healthcare in Clinton, Mo., has completed the world’s first knee replacement surgery using a new miniature robotic system.
The groundbreaking surgery, led by orthopedic surgeon James Womack, M.D., utilized the THINK Surgical TMINI® Miniature Robotic System in combination with a Stryker Triathlon® knee implant. The miniature robotic platform allows for highly individualized procedures, giving surgeons flexibility to tailor implants and surgical plans to each patient’s anatomy. The system’s compact design and advanced planning tools can improve accuracy, efficiency and consistency.
Leaders at GVMH say the milestone underscores the growing role of advanced technology in patient care, even in rural settings. CEO Craig Thompson noted that innovations like robotic-assisted surgery help ensure patients in smaller communities have access to cutting-edge treatment options, leading to improved outcomes and more personalized care for patients undergoing joint replacement procedures.
