The American Hospital Association (AHA) and the National Urban League (NUL) formed an alliance to advance diversity in health care leadership in communities across the country and to advance health equity initiatives. This alliance will strengthen hospitals and health systems to provide more equitable care to communities thus creating a society of healthy communities, where all individuals reach their highest potential for health.
- Both organizations understand critical importance that diversifying leadership in governance leads to better health outcomes for communities;
- Both organizations agree that community health workers can help create better linkages between the hospital or health system and the community;
- Both organizations value the importance of advancing shared policy solutions that affect communities of color.
Together, these organizations will collaborate on efforts to match NUL leaders with AHA member hospital and health system CEOs with the goal of increasing diversity on governance boards, share leading practices on community health worker programs and promote shared policy solutions to persistent challenges that impact the health of vulnerable communities.
The Institute for Diversity and Health Equity is facilitating these imperative initiatives.
