Palliative care leader named 2017 TRUST Award recipient
Diane Meier, M.D., director of the Center to Advance Palliative Care, will receive the Health Research & Educational Trust's 2017 TRUST Award at the Health Forum/AHA Leadership Summit July 27 in San Diego. Under her leadership of the national organization, the number of palliative care programs in U.S. hospitals has more than tripled in the past 10 years. Meier also is a professor of geriatrics, palliative medicine and medical ethics at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York, where she founded the Hertzberg Palliative Care Institute. “Diane has demonstrated extraordinary vision and made many contributions to the health care field through her innovations in age-friendly, person-centered care approaches, specifically on palliative care delivery models,” said David Tilton, chair of the HRET board of trustees. Jay Bhatt, D.O., president of HRET and chief medical officer of the AHA, said, “Diane’s leadership in the field of palliative care has been transformative.” HRET is an AHA affiliate.
