The California Hospital Association today named as its next president and CEO Carmela Coyle, currently president and CEO of the Maryland Hospital Association. She is expected to replace retiring president and CEO Duane Duaner by Oct. 30. Coyle has led MHA since 2008 and previously spent 20 years at the AHA, including 11 years as senior vice president of policy. She currently serves as an AHA board member. “Carmela has been a tremendous champion for Maryland hospitals and over the years I have seen her commitment of putting patients first by increasing access to care and improving the quality of care patients receive,” said AHA President and CEO Rick Pollack. “Of course she has also made tremendous contributions at the national level as well, as a member of the AHA executive staff and through her service on the AHA Board of Trustees. CHA has chosen an innovative leader who is a first class thinker, great communicator and talented consensus builder who will continue to help lead the field in advancing health in America.”
