The Food and Drug Administration Friday took steps to encourage and streamline the development of COVID-19 tests whose specimens are collected at home by patients. To support this effort, the agency issued revised guidance for these tests’ development and also offers a voluntary template that developers can use to secure emergency use authorizations.
