University of Florida Health Jacksonville CEO and Dean Leon Haley Jr., M.D., who served on the AHA Committee on Clinical Leadership, died unexpectedly this weekend, the health system announced Saturday. Dr. Haley also served as an AHA COVID-19 vaccine clinical ambassador, supporting an AHA and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention joint effort to provide the public with trusted information to increase their confidence in COVID-19 vaccines.

“The AHA was saddened to learn about the tragic passing of Dr. Leon Haley, CEO of UF Health Jacksonville, this weekend,” said AHA President and CEO Rick Pollack. “Dr. Haley was a true leader in his community, a champion for health equity and a valuable member of the hospital and health system field, including by serving on the AHA Committee on Clinical Leadership and as one of the AHA’s representatives on the Board of Directors for the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education. Our thoughts go out to his family, friends and colleagues at UF Health and across the country.”
