Hospitals add 18,800 jobs in January

Employment at the nation's hospitals rose by 0.36 percent in January to a seasonally adjusted 5,214,200 people, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported Friday. That's 18,800 more people than in December and 112,100 more than a year ago. Without the seasonal adjustment, which removes the effect of fluctuations due to seasonal events, hospitals employed 5,206,300 people in January – 1,100 fewer than in December but 113,100 more than a year ago. The nation's overall unemployment rose by 0.1 percentage point in January to 4.0 percent.
