CMS and CDC Rule would update proficiency testing requirements for CLIA laboratories

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention today published a proposed rule that would update 1992 proficiency testing and referral requirements under the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments. More than 36,000 CLIA-certified laboratories, including hospital laboratories, are enrolled in a CMS-approved proficiency testing program. The agencies will accept comments on the proposed rule through April 5.
