Minnesota Hospital Association leader to retire

Minnesota Hospital Association President and CEO Lawrence “Lorry” Massa will retire in September, the association announced yesterday. Massa has led the association, which represents 141 hospitals and health systems, for nearly 11 years. “It has been the honor of a lifetime to both lead and serve hospital and health care organizations throughout Minnesota,” he said. AHA President and CEO Rick Pollack said, “Throughout his career, Lorry Massa has been a true champion for hospitals and health systems and the patients they serve. He was a trailblazer in working to ensure that all Minnesotans have access to high-quality care. His efforts helped to expand coverage to all Minnesotans as Minnesota was one of the first states to expand Medicaid. He’s a leader who recognized that in order to address challenging public health issues like mental health and the opioid crisis, hospitals need to partner with others in the community to help patients. His leadership helped elevate care across Minnesota.” Before joining MHA, Massa served as CEO of Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar, Minn., and before that as South Dakota’s secretary of health.
