Virginia hospitals and health systems provided almost $3 billion in community benefit and other types of community support in 2013, according to a report by the Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association. “It has not been an easy time for Virginia’s health care providers,” said VHHA President and CEO Sean Connaughton. “They continue to face major shortfalls in reimbursements, while also confronting rapidly declining federal funding. Despite these difficult circumstances, the men and women of Virginia’s hospitals and health systems are committed to serving their fellow Virginians and ensuring that we all have access to affordable and quality health care in the communities we call home.”
