The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services today released calendar year 2013 data on durable medical equipment, prosthetics, orthotics and supplies provided to Medicare beneficiaries through referrals by physicians and other health care professionals. The data is based on information from Part B non-institutional DMEPOS claims, and excludes aggregated records derived from 10 or fewer claims. For each referring provider and service, the data includes the total number of services furnished by DMEPOS suppliers, the supplier’s average charge, the average Medicare payment, and the average Medicare allowed amount, which is the sum of Medicare’s payment and any deductible or coinsurance owed by the beneficiary. “CMS is providing this data to support insight and innovations in health care delivery,” said Acting CMS Administrator Andrew Slavitt.
