The AHA joins the field in mourning the passing of Donald (Don) A. Wilson, longtime president and CEO of the Kansas Hospital Association. He was 81. Wilson served in the KHA’s top leadership role from 1982 to 2004, a tenure that resulted in a number of innovative initiatives that continue at hospitals and health systems across Kansas. Prior to his time in Kansas, Wilson helped lead the Iowa Hospital Association.

In 2003, the AHA presented its Board of Trustees Award to Wilson. The Board of Trustees Award recognizes individuals or groups who have made substantial and noteworthy contributions to the work of AHA. Among his colleagues at the AHA, Wilson was known as a skilled political advocate in both state and national affairs.

“Don Wilson left a lasting legacy of improved health care for the citizens of Kansas, and for many across the country,” said AHA President and CEO Rick Pollack. “As CEO of the Kansas Hospital Association, he was a committed, strong and effective advocate for hospitals and the patients they serve. And he was a tireless champion for rural hospitals and health care, recognizing the essential role they provide their communities.”
