Op-ed: Look to nurses to help speed health care transformation

In an op-ed published Friday by STAT, Robyn Begley, CEO of AHA's American Organization for Nursing Leadership affiliate and AHA chief nursing officer and senior vice president for workforce, and other nurse leaders share how nurses are helping to reshape clinical practice during the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond.

Examples include nurse-led command centers that deploy health system resources to treat patients more effectively, creative partnerships that connect homebound individuals to highly trained health practitioners, and tighter collaborations between points of care and the academic institutions that prepare nurses to practice. “Let’s prioritize, preserve, and accelerate nurse-led advancement which, in turn, will support outcomes, drive new care models, and help build a more equitable health care system as we work toward a ‘new normal,’” they write.
