Hospital and health system jobs increase by over 3,000 in August

Hospitals and health systems employed nearly 3,200 more people in August, as U.S. jobs overall increased by 235,000, according to preliminary data released Sept. 3 by the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Health care jobs overall fell by 4,900 and remain at just under 16 million total (seasonally adjusted). Outpatient care centers, physicians, and dentists continued to add jobs. Home health care jobs fell by over 11,000 to its lowest level in 2021. Nursing care facility jobs fell by 7,000. Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, hospitals and health systems have added nearly 44,000 jobs, but remain below their February 2020 peak.
