Senate rejects continuing resolution funding government through Dec. 3

The Senate last night voted 48-50 to reject cutting off debate on a motion to proceed to a House-passed continuing resolution that would generally extend current federal funding levels for health care and all other programs through Dec. 3, 2021. The legislation also would provide $28.6 billion in disaster relief; $6.3 billion to support evacuees from Afghanistan; and suspend the statutory debt limit through December 2022. The House and Senate next may consider a CR that excludes the debt limit suspension or one that extends government funding for a shorter period of time. Current government funding expires on Sept. 30.
