AHA podcast: Restoring maternal mental health

Depression during pregnancy and postpartum depression are among the most common complications of pregnancy, even higher than hypertension and diabetes, said Alpa Shah, M.D., director of the Perinatal Mental Health Clinic at Marshfield Clinic Health System. In recognition of National Depression and Mental Health Screening month, Aisha Syeda, AHA’s program manager of strategic initiatives, speaks with Shah and Nirmaljit Dhami, M.D., medical director of the inpatient perinatal psychiatry at El Camino Health, about the need for patient-centric care and connecting patients with support services to manage their mental health.
