CDC: 44% of eligible seniors have received COVID-19 booster

About four in 10 eligible U.S. adults aged 65 or older received a booster or additional primary dose of COVID-19 vaccine between Aug. 13 and Nov. 19, with lowest coverage among American Indian or Alaska Native (30%), Hispanic or Latino (34%), and Native Hawaiian or other Pacific Islander persons (35%), CDC reported today.

“Strategic efforts are needed to encourage eligible persons aged ≥18 years, especially those aged ≥65 years and those who are immunocompromised, to receive a booster and/or additional primary dose to ensure maximal protection against COVID-19,” the authors said.

According to another CDC report released today, 22 states had attributed at least one COVID-19 case to the new omicron variant as of Dec. 8. The reported cases include one hospitalization and no deaths.
