CNN: Administration to renew COVID-19 public health emergency

The Biden Administration plans to continue the COVID-19 public health emergency beyond July 15, administration officials told CNN this week.

The administration has repeatedly said it would give states 60 days' notice before ending the declaration, which would have been Monday. But the deadline passed without notification and is expected to be renewed for up to another 90 days, CNN reports.

The AHA and other national health care organizations last week urged Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra to maintain the public health emergency until it’s clear that the global pandemic has receded and the capabilities authorized by the PHE are no longer necessary.
