Most patients would agree that time spent with their care providers is precious. That is why Philadelphia-based Jefferson Health has unveiled an artificial intelligence (AI) strategy aimed at reclaiming over 10 million hours of clinician time by 2028, allowing clinicians to focus more on patients and less on administrative tasks. By reducing paperwork for more than 23,000 clinicians, the health system expects to return the equivalent of two years’ worth of time to its workforce.
“This is not just a technology strategy,” said Baligh Yehia, M.D., president of Jefferson Health. “It’s a bold commitment to reimagine health care — where innovation amplifies compassion, and AI helps us deliver safer, smarter and more accessible care for patients.”
Jefferson Health launched its enterprise-wide strategy in 2024 with the goal of using AI to augment — not replace — human care. The system has already implemented ambient listening tools to automate documentation for physicians and is working on expanding it to nursing. With nearly 120 AI solutions identified across clinical, operational and administrative areas, the initiative is aligned with Jefferson’s mission to deliver exceptional, patient-centered care through responsible innovation.
