Children’s Nebraska opened the first Level I Pediatric Trauma Center in the state in the fall of 2025. The American College of Surgeons awarded the designation following a rigorous evaluation of the hospital’s trauma program, recognizing its ability to provide the highest level of comprehensive, 24/7 care for critically injured children. Hospital leaders say the achievement underscores their long-standing commitment to delivering immediate, specialized treatment when seconds matter.

The level I status confirms that Children’s Nebraska is equipped to care for the most acute and complex pediatric injuries, with continuous access to pediatric trauma surgeons, emergency physicians, anesthesiologists, neurosurgeons, orthopedic surgeons and critical care teams. The facility features operating rooms, imaging services and intensive care environments designed specifically for young patients. Beyond emergency response, the hospital also provides coordinated care that spans case management, surgery, recovery and rehabilitation, and family support.

In addition to advanced clinical capabilities, Children’s Nebraska serves as a statewide resource for education, research and injury prevention and also collaborates with hospitals across Nebraska to support trauma preparedness and community safety initiatives. Leaders emphasize that the new designation is both a recognition of past work and a launchpad for future innovation in pediatric trauma care.
