The Department of Health and Human Services announced Oct. 22 that it is seeking subject matter experts to apply to serve on the National Biodefense Science Board and the National Advisory Committee on Children and Disaster. The NBSB advises the HHS secretary and the Administration for Strategic Preparedness and Response on scientific, technical and other matters regarding public health and medical preparedness and response, including preparedness for infectious disease outbreaks and health impacts of chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear threats. It also considers how developments in biological and life sciences, biotechnology and genetic engineering could impact the nation’s health, security and preparedness. The NBSB consists of 13 experts from scientific, public health and medical backgrounds. The NACCD, also consisting of 13 members, advises the HHS secretary and ASPR on medical and public health needs of children in disasters. HHS said it is accepting applications for both committees through Nov. 22, and that individuals may nominate themselves for consideration.
