Baylor Scott & White Health, the largest not-for-profit health care system in Texas, today named James Hinton as its next president and CEO, effective Jan. 16. Hinton, who served as AHA chairman in 2014, has been president and CEO of Presbyterian Healthcare Services, a not-for-profit integrated delivery network in New Mexico, for 21 years. He succeeds Joel Allison, who led Baylor Scott & White Health for 23 years. "During this time of incredible change in healthcare, Jim brings exceptional experience that will help move us into the future," said Jim Turner, chairman of the Baylor Scott & White Holdings Board of Trustees. "He is one of the few health system leaders in the country who has successfully navigated an organization from a focus on volume to a focus on value; and beyond his impressive accomplishments, those he leads are quick to say he is best known for promoting a caring culture." AHA President and CEO Rick Pollack said Hinton has “provided strong, creative and innovative leadership with a passion for improving the health of more than two million New Mexicans over three decades. He also has made outstanding contributions to advancing health in America through his various leadership roles at AHA, including as chair of the Board of Trustees, where he has been a champion for improving quality, expanding coverage, and transforming the delivery system. He is a worthy successor to Joel Allison who has made Baylor Scott & White the outstanding organization it is today.”
