Roses from anonymous volunteers lift patients’, loved ones’ spirits
Feeling exhausted and emotionally drained from a visit to the emergency room with a loved one at Lakeview Hospital in Bountiful, Utah, Nancy Lawrence was surprised as she walked to the parking lot to see several people placing roses and handwritten notes on the cars. The notes simply read, “You are loved so much.” Curious, she spoke to them and learned they were local volunteers who lived nearby, appreciated the hospital and wanted to cheer up the patients and loved ones who had been staying in the facility.
Their simple act of compassion deeply moved Lawrence, making her feel seen and uplifted during a challenging time. “I thought it was so nice that there are people who are just trying to be kind and nice to other people as opposed to being contentious and angry," Lawrence said.
She took her rose home, placed it in a vase with the note, and found that it continued to bring her comfort and strength. For someone facing ongoing health and personal struggles, the message serves as a daily reminder of the power of small acts of kindness.
