Idaho hospital's youngest preemie to ever survive celebrates 1st birthday

Born in Idaho Falls at just 22 weeks gestation and weighing only 1 pound 4 ounces, Logan Ames faced overwhelming odds as a micro-preemie. One year later, Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center celebrated his first birthday, celebrating not only Logan’s survival but also the dedication of the doctors, nurses, and family members who supported him through 163 days in the neonatal intensive care unit.

During his time in the NICU, Logan experienced numerous life-threatening complications, including a perforated bowel, kidney injury, and a six-day period without urination that doctors feared he would not survive. Despite these setbacks, he continued to fight and eventually became strong enough to return home. Today, according to his mother, Logan is thriving, weighing 18 pounds, growing steadily, and bringing joy as a “miracle baby” to his family with his smile and personality.

"We are celebrating every physician, every respiratory therapist, technician and support staff member who played an incredible role in his journey," said Anna Ames. "We will never forget the people who stood beside him and beside us through every high and low."
