UnityPoint Health – Trinity Regional Medical Center in Fort Dodge is using artificial intelligence technology during colonoscopy procedures to improve early detection of colorectal cancer. The hospital recently implemented GI Genius™, which analyzes colonoscopy images in real time and alerts physicians to small or difficult-to-detect polyps that may otherwise be missed. Hospital leaders said the technology helps identify and remove precancerous growths before they develop into cancer.

All providers performing colonoscopies at Trinity Regional Medical Center, including specialists from UnityPoint Clinic Kenyon Road - Gastroenterology and UnityPoint Clinic Surgery, are using GI Genius. Physicians direct every aspect of the procedure and make all clinical decisions, and the technology serves as an additional set of eyes, helping clinicians spot areas that may warrant closer inspection.

The hospital has also expanded access to colorectal cancer screening services. In 2025, the surgical team at Trinity Regional Medical Center performed more than 1,700 colonoscopies, nearly 300 more than the previous year.
