Sanford Children’s Therapies expands Dynamic Movement Intervention program

Sanford Children’s Therapies is expanding its use of Dynamic Movement Intervention (DMI) in Bismarck, bringing an advanced pediatric rehabilitation approach to children with developmental and neurological challenges. DMI is a structured, hands-on therapy designed to stimulate a child’s neuromuscular system and improve movement, balance and coordination. The therapy is used to help children develop foundational motor skills and can benefit those with conditions such as cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, developmental delays, low muscle tone and other genetic or neurological disorders.
Unlike traditional pediatric therapy programs that often focus on play-based strengthening activities, DMI uses therapist-guided movements to build postural control, gross motor skills and functional movement patterns. According to Sanford Children’s Therapies Manager Jackie Mrachek, PT, DPT, families participating in the program have already reported meaningful progress, with many children achieving new mobility milestones. Sanford introduced DMI in the Bismarck region more than a year ago and has become one of the first health care teams in the area to adopt and expand the specialized therapy.
Sanford Bismarck planned this spring to host a Level C DMI training course, the highest level of certification and one of only a few such trainings scheduled worldwide in 2026. Sanford expects to have 10 Level C-trained therapists, allowing the organization to offer DMI Intensives, a sought-after therapy format designed to accelerate progress.
