Just as regular maintenance keeps a car running smoothly, routine health screenings can help detect problems before they become serious. Sentara is reinforcing that message through its partnership with the local Street Dreams Corvette Club based in Virginia Beach, Va. to bring prostate cancer screenings and education opportunities into the community. The goal is to support early cancer detection and jump-start important conversations about men's health.

The partnership began when Sentara community cancer educator Betsy Carroll connected with the Corvette club to deliver a prostate cancer education session. Following the session, club members expressed interest in doing more to help raise awareness about the importance of screening and early detection. In September 2026, they co-organized a screening event at a car show, where 18 men were screened.

Prostate cancer is the most common form of cancer diagnosed in men and the second-leading cause of cancer-related death among men. An estimated 333,830 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in the United States in 2026. While prostate cancer can be serious, many cases are highly treatable when found early.

Sentara plans to make the screening an annual event and expand to other Corvette clubs. Street Dreams leaders say the partnership offers a unique opportunity for more men to learn about cancer risks, take advantage of preventive care and keep their health on track.
