Access to Care in Vulnerable Communities
For millions of Americans living in vulnerable rural and urban communities, their hospital is often the only source of care. However, many of these hospitals are fighting to survive – potentially leaving their communities at risk for losing access to health care services.
The AHA's Task Force on Ensuring Access in Vulnerable Communities studied the challenges facing rural and urban hospitals. The 29-member committee held meetings, heard from policymakers and conducted listening sessions to speak with hospital and community leaders around the country.
The Task Force’s 2016 report seeks to provide vulnerable communities and the hospitals that serve them with the tools and strategies necessary to determine the essential services they should strive to maintain locally, and the delivery system options that will allow them to do so.
The AHA’s work to ensure access is ongoing. Visit this webpage often for the latest developments and resources as we work to ensure access to health care services.
