The workforce is health care’s most precious resource. Hospitals and health systems are committed to creating a culture of psychological safety and support and to improving access to behavioral health screenings, referrals, and treatment when the workforce needs it, but keeping up with best practices can be daunting.
This session will provide an overview of AHA’s new workforce mental wellbeing guide, Suicide Prevention: Evidence-Informed Interventions for the Health Care Workforce. We will take a deep dive into the three drivers of suicide -- stigma, limited access to behavioral health resources and treatment, and job-related stressors -- and the 12 evidence-informed interventions that leaders can implement to better support the mental wellbeing of their workforce and reduce suicide risk.
Development of this product was supported by Cooperative Agreement CK20-2003, funded by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health. Attendees Will Learn:
- Discuss the current state of mental well-being and suicide prevention programming, research, and outcomes.
- Identify the three key drivers of suicide in the health care workforce.
- Understand how the 12 evidence-informed interventions to impact the key drivers can be implemented individually or in combination at a hospital or health care system.
