Just Culture in health care is effective in reducing safety risks while being fair to staff who make errors. TeamSTEPPS is an evidence-based set of teamwork tools, aimed at optimizing patient outcomes by improving communication and teamwork skills among health care professionals. The question we pose in this webinar is “Does your staff truly understand Just Culture and a non-punitive environment?” Additionally, if your organization speaks TeamSTEPPS, do you know how to utilize this language of patient safety to support a Just Culture? Lynn Fricke, MPS, RN and Ronnie McKinnon RN, JD, CPHRM, CPSO, CPPS, Adjunct Professor Health Law, Loyola Law School, Beazley Institute for Health Law and Policy, provide a brief overview of key components of Just Culture, and then showcase specific examples of TeamSTEPPS tools that may be applied to attain and sustain a Just Culture.
