Individuals and families in states using the federally-facilitated Health Insurance Marketplace who are subject to a fee for not having health coverage when they file their 2014 taxes can enroll in 2015 coverage during a special enrollment period March 15 to April 30, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services announced today. They cannot be currently enrolled in coverage through the FFM, and must attest that they paid the shared responsibility fee and were first aware of or understood the fee’s implications after the end of open enrollment on Feb. 15. CMS also announced a new tool to help consumers determine if they qualify for an exemption from the 2014 shared responsibility payment, available at HealthCare.gov and CuidadodeSalud.gov.
