More than 2.8 million people have selected a health plan through the federally-facilitated Health Insurance Marketplace since the start of open enrollment Nov. 1, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services announced today. Nearly two-thirds of the plan selections were by 2015 enrollees who were renewing coverage or selecting a new plan for 2016; the rest did not have current Marketplace coverage. Open enrollment runs through Jan. 31, but enrollees must sign up by Dec. 15 for coverage beginning Jan. 1. “With less than a week before the Dec. 15 deadline, we urge consumers to visit HealthCare.gov and get enrolled,” said Health and Human Services Secretary Sylvia Burwell.
