Nearly 4.2 million people have selected a health plan through the federally-facilitated Health Insurance Marketplace since the start of open enrollment Nov. 1, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services announced yesterday. About 64% of the plan selections were by 2015 enrollees who were renewing coverage or selecting a new plan for 2016; the rest did not have current Marketplace coverage. Open enrollment runs through Jan. 31, but enrollees must sign up by today for coverage beginning Jan. 1. “The unprecedented demand over the last several days continues to show that coverage through HealthCare.gov is something millions of Americans want and need,” said Health and Human Services Secretary Sylvia Burwell.
