About 11.1 million Americans had an active 2016 Health Insurance Marketplace plan on March 31, or 87% of those who selected a health plan during open enrollment, the Department of Health and Human Services reported yesterday. The total includes 8.4 million who enrolled through HealthCare.gov and 2.7 million through state-based marketplaces. The snapshot includes state-level data on 2016 enrollment and advance premium tax credits, and 2015 special enrollment periods. Going forward, CMS plans to report average active enrollment for a six-month period. The agency continues to project active enrollment of about 10 million for the end of 2016.
