The Department of Justice is “poised to file lawsuits to block” Anthem’s acquisition of Cigna and Aetna’s acquisition of Humana, according to a Bloomberg news report. A decision on whether to block the deals, which would reduce the five largest health insurers to three, could come this week or next, according to the report, which says DOJ officials are concerned that the deals would harm customers. AHA President and CEO Rick Pollack said, “We are pleased that the DOJ has vigorously investigated and appears ready to block these deals. This is good news for patients and consumers who need access to affordable health insurance.”
