Deadline extended to apply for Marketplace coverage effective Jan. 1

The deadline for consumers to sign up for Jan. 1 coverage through the Health Insurance Marketplaces has been extended to Dec. 19. According to a notice posted on HealthCare.gov, the extension was driven by “extraordinary demand” to enroll online and over the phone. As of Dec. 12, more than 4 million people had selected ACA health plans during open enrollment, which runs through Jan. 31.
