Hospitals add 4,200 jobs in January
Employment at the nation's hospitals rose by 0.08% in January to a seasonally adjusted 5,080,700 people, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported Friday. That's 4,200 more people than in December and 108,600 more than a year ago. Without the seasonal adjustment, which removes the effect of fluctuations due to seasonal events, hospitals employed 5,071,000 people in January – 15,400 fewer than in December and 104,200 more than a year ago. The nation's overall unemployment rate rose by 0.1 percentage point in January to 4.8%.
