CMS accepting 2017 QPP hardship exception applications
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services yesterday began accepting applications for 2017 hardship exceptions to the Quality Payment Program’s Advancing Care Information performance category. Clinicians eligible to participate in the QPP’s Merit-based Incentive Payment System may apply for hardship exceptions due to insufficient internet connectivity, “extreme and uncontrollable” circumstances, or lack of control over the availability of certified electronic health record technology. MIPS-eligible hospital-based clinicians are considered special status and do not need to apply for a 2017 hardship exception.
