The Physician-Focused Payment Model Technical Advisory Committee this week recommended that Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar approve a Medicare payment demonstration to test two alternative payment models to support people with advanced illness. The Advanced Care Model was developed by the Coalition to Transform Advanced Care (C-TAC), and the Patient and Caregiver Support for Serious Illness model was developed by the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine. The Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act of 2015 created the advisory committee to recommend physician-focused payment models to the HHS secretary. AHA is a member of C-TAC and supports efforts to incorporate advanced illness management into new models of care.
