The first permanent and full-time secretary of the American Hospital Association, Dr. Walsh previously was medical superintendent of Children's Hospital in Philadelphia. He became CEO in 1917 and in 1918 volunteered for World War I duty as commanding officer of a US Army based hospital in France.
