Mr. Bugbee was the AHA's first non-physician CEO and had worked with the University of Michigan Hospital and City Hospital in Cleveland. Looking to provide accessible information to the members of how to manage hospitals (what he called "the five-foot bookshelf"), he expanded staff expertise and launched the first hospital directory and Trustee magazine. Later, he directed the University of Chicago Graduate Program in Hospital Administration.
