The AHA Board and House of Delegates approve a statement reaffirming hospital commitment to the people of their communities, including direct patient care needs and outside the hospital walls to prevent disease and maintain and restore health. It stated "the hospital must recognize the impact of housing, education, and transportation on the health of the community and should assist other community forces I taking steps to make needed improvements." It also spoke directly to high care quality and coordinated health care services for the disadvantaged and elimination of differentials in the availability and quality of health care.
