Mental Illness Awareness Week focuses on curing stigma

This is Mental Illness Awareness Week, established by Congress in 1990 to raise awareness about mental illness. This year’s week focuses on fighting stigma. The week also includes National Depression Screening Day, dedicated to raising awareness and screening people for depression and related mood and anxiety disorders. For information and resources to help hospitals and health systems address stigma, which can lead patients to forgo mental health and addiction treatment, visit www.aha.org. AHA members also can access a recent webinar on the issue.
