The University of Utah Health and the Mayo Clinic yesterday received International Hospital Federation Awards, which recognize hospitals and health care organizations with demonstrable excellence, innovations and outstanding achievements in health care. The awards were presented during the IHF’s World Hospital Congress in Brisbane, Australia. The University of Utah Health received a gold award for leadership and management in health care for its implementation of a data driven approach to manage utilization of resources and improve quality of care. The Mayo Clinic received a silver award for quality and safety and patient-centered care for optimizing opioid prescribing for surgical patients. At the conference, the AHA and American College of Healthcare Executives delivered a joint session on hospitals as change agents in their communities. AHA President and CEO Rick Pollack moderated the session, which included presentations by AHA Chair Nancy Agee, Chair-elect Brian Gragnolati, Atrium Health President and CEO Gene Woods and Froedtert Health Senior Vice President David Olson on innovative ways that hospitals are partnering with stakeholders in their communities to improve patient and population health.
