Mercy Medical Center in Roseburg and PeaceHealth Sacred Heart Medical Center at Riverbend in Springfield, OR, treated victims in yesterday’s shooting at a community college campus in Roseburg. At least nine people are reported dead and seven were injured, several critically. The gunman is also deceased. "In the face of a horrific tragedy, our hospital community was called on to do what we do best: immediately care for the wounded, and save lives,” said Andy Davidson, president and CEO of the Oregon Association of Hospitals and Health Systems. “Mercy Medical Center was on the front line with support from PeaceHealth Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend, which provided care as well. In short, the system worked, and our hospital heroes were able to work to save lives in an efficient manner. Yet again we have a tragedy that reinforces the need for comprehensive reform of the mental health system in our nation. Meanwhile, our hearts go out to the families of the victims, and the entire Roseburg community and yet we are intensely proud of the work our hospitals did in this crisis."
