Hospital and health system jobs fall by 5,500 in June
Hospitals and health systems employed 5,500 fewer people in June, as U.S. jobs overall increased by 850,000, according to preliminary data released today by the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Health care jobs overall fell by 12,200 and remain at just under 16 million total (seasonally adjusted). Outpatient care centers, physicians, and dentists continued to add jobs. Jobs at nursing and residential care facilities fell by just under 1,000. BLS also revised May employment estimates for hospitals and health systems downward by 2,900 jobs. Since the beginning of the pandemic, hospitals and health systems have added over 26,000 jobs, but remain below their February 2020 peak.
