Hospital and health system jobs fall by over 8,000 in September
Employment at hospitals and health systems fell by more than 8,000 jobs in September, as U.S. jobs overall increased by 194,000, according to preliminary data released today by the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Health care jobs overall fell by 17,500 and remain at just under 16 million (seasonally adjusted). Outpatient care centers, physicians and dentists continued to add jobs, while jobs at nursing and residential care facility fell by 37,600. Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, hospitals and health systems have added just over 35,000 jobs, but remain below their February 2020 peak.
