HHS reports on health coverage gains between 2019 and 2021

The uninsured rate for Americans under age 65 fell from 11.1% in 2019 to 10.5% in 2021, according to a report released today by the Department of Health and Human Services. Declines were largest for those with incomes between 100% and 250% of the federal poverty level, and for demographic groups with higher historical uninsured rates, including adults under age 50; Latino and American Indian/Alaska Native individuals, and non-English speaking adults. Maine and Idaho, which over the period expanded Medicaid to low-income adults under the Affordable Care Act, had the largest declines by state.
