Manning Family Children’s Hospital has become the first facility in Louisiana and the broader Gulf South region to earn verification as a Level I Pediatric Trauma Center. The American College of Surgeons granted the verification following a site visit, that recognized the hospital’s extensive capabilities, including 24/7 in-house pediatric trauma expertise, access to all pediatric surgical subspecialties and a dedicated pediatric intensive care unit.

The designation emphasizes that Level I centers are not only equipped for the most severe injuries but also expected to guide statewide and regional improvement in pediatric trauma systems. “In addition to delivering comprehensive, around-the-clock care for our most seriously injured children, Level I Trauma Centers are responsible for advancing pediatric trauma care across the state and region,” said As David Yu, M.D., trauma program medical director at Manning Children’s. “As an expert resource and regional referral center, our team offers comprehensive, highly specialized, multi-disciplinary trauma care from prevention to rehabilitation.”
