AHA Names John Riggi Senior Advisor For Cybersecurity and Risk

WASHINGTON, DC (February 20, 2018) – The American Hospital Association (AHA) today announced that John Riggi has joined the association as Senior Advisor for Cybersecurity and Risk.

In this newly created role, Riggi, who spent nearly 30 years with the FBI in a variety of assignments, will share his practical and strategic cybersecurity and risk knowledge with the association’s more than 5,000 members.

“Cybersecurity is on the top of every health leader’s mind,” said AHA President and CEO Rick Pollack. “And John is nationally recognized as one of the best experts out there on health care cybersecurity. His strong credentials and expertise will go a long way in helping the field strengthen their defenses against rampant cyber and physical threats.”

After leaving the FBI, Riggi led BDO USA’s Cybersecurity and Financial Crimes Practice where he worked closely with the AHA to develop and lead AHA’s cybersecurity education and awareness initiatives.

At the FBI Cyber Division, he led the national program to develop partnerships with health care and other critical infrastructure sectors for the investigation and exchange of information related to national security and criminal cyber threats.

As a result, John played a national strategic role in the investigations of the largest cyber-attacks targeting health care, government and other sectors. Riggi also served as a representative to the White House’s Cyber Response Group, Financial Services Steering Committee.

In addition, he is an official private sector validator for the White House’s Presidential Policy Directive on U.S. Cyber Incident Coordination, a policy intended to improve collaboration between the public and private sectors to combat significant cyber threats potentially affecting public health and safety, national security or economic security.

Previously in his career, Riggi served in leadership positions in the FBI’s Washington Field Office Intelligence Division, the New York Office, Joint Terrorism Task Force and High Intensity Financial Crimes Area Task Force and was National Operations Manager for the FBI’s Terrorist Financing Section. He also served as a senior FBI representative at the CIA’s Counterterrorism Center. Riggi is the recipient of the FBI Director’s Award for leading a highly successful classified terrorism financing interdiction program, and also received the CIA George H.W. Bush Award for Excellence in Counterterrorism, the CIA’s highest counterterrorism award.

Riggi earned his bachelor of science degree from Northeastern University. Riggi is certified in Global Information Assurance and is a member of the FBI Agents Association and the Society of Former Special Agents of the FBI.
